The third season of BATTLESTAR GALACTCIA has it's up and downs. However, episodes like EXODUS, TORN, A MEASURE OF SALVATION,
and MAELSTROM help make this season very interesting. The foru two part episode storylines add strength to the series. The
show is very serialized and works best when it doesn't do stand alone episodes. The arcs of the series takes the series in
unexpected directions and focuses on character development.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
All 20 of Ronald D. Moore's Podcast commentaries from the Sci-Fi Channel web site are here in addition to three bonus podcast
commentaries for the last three episodes by actor Mark Sheppard (an episode writer is around for the first one). Also producer
David Eick has recorded an audio commentary for HERO while Ron Moore (with an editor of the show) provides one for the extended
cut of UNFINISHED BUSINESS (25 more minutes in that version). The commentary for the editor’s cut of UNFINISHED BUSINESS
gives an insight into the editing of the series and what stuff works better in the longer cut and what worked better being
cut down.
The 22 video blogs give a good behind-the-scenes look at the making of the series. I do wish they put the Resistance webisodes
on disc 1 instead of disc 2 (since the storyline is a prequel to the first four episodes).
Rounding out the extras are at least an hour of deleted scenes on the set (about 3 to 5 minutes for many episodes). So this
set is packed with extras like the season 1 and season 2.5 sets.
FINAL ANALYSIS: BATTLESTAR GLACTICA continues to be one of the best sci-fi series with the third season in a set with lots
of extras to explore.
