RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY is a new adaptation of the popular Resident Evil game franchise which uses the characters
and story more than the previous RESIDENT EVIL live action films ever did. This RESIDENT EVIL movie adapts from two of the
video games and sets it in the 1990s with John Carpenter style credit sequences.
RESIDENT EVIL: WELCOME TO RACCOON CITY is sometimes better and sometimes just so-so compared to the first RESIDENT EVIL
movie that director Paul W.S. Anderson directed. On the plus side, the characters from the video games are the central characters
and not a character like Alice who was invented for the movie series. I love the previous six RESIDNET EVIL movies, but
one of my big complaints about the previous films is how they didn't utilize the game characters well enough and sometimes
even drop storylines set up by the cliffhanger ending of the previous movie.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Three Featurettes that go behind the scenes of making the movie with cast and crew interviews (and behind-the-scenes footage)-
REPLICATING THE DNA
COPS, CORPSES, AND CHAOS
ZOMBIES, LICKERS, AND THE HORROR OF RESIDENT EVIL
Also included on the 4K UHD and blu-ray disc are previews for other releases from Sony Pictures including SPIDER-MAN:
NO WAY HOME, VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE, MORBIUS, UNCHARTED, and GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE
An insert for a UHD digital code (for the movie and extras) available to redeem at Movies Anywhere is in the case.
FINAL ANALYSIS: I liked this new adaptation of RESIDENT EVIL. I can see where the first two RESIDENT EVIL movies took
inspiration from the video games and the featurettes are great to watch if you want to know more about the production and
adaptation. I do wish the movie was a little longer, but I hope we get to see a sequel despite the movie doing poor box office.
