2009 MOVIES and TV SHOWS in review
article by David Blackwell
2009 was an interesting year with
many good and bad entries in the film and TV world. This article lists what I liked the best for movies and TV shows
for 2009.
MOVIES:
STAR TREK (2009)
DISTRICT 9
PANDORUM
INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS
ZOMBIELAND
PARANORMAL ACTIVITY
WATCHMEN Director's Cut
IN THE ELECTRIC MIST
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN
TV SHOWS:
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA- A great for a fantastic series that is now over. I don’t
like the last few minutes of the finale though.
FLASH FORWARD- It is an intriguing series
with plenty of twists and questions. Must-See TV on Thursday. Too bad the show isn’t back on until mid-March, but the first half of the show is out on DVD next
month if you haven’t been watching.
LOST- The fifth season is one of the best
with plenty of time travel, twists, and flashbacks. The cliffhanger makes
me wonder what happens next and what they have in store for the sixth and final season with the quantum physics they threw
at viewers about time travel for season five.
STARGATE UNIVERSE- The best of the STARGATE
shows so far as the series focuses more on character based sci-fi without resorting to big alien villains. It is about the wrong people getting stuck on a ship millions of light years from home with little chance
of getting back home on a starship they don’t control. The series is close
to being like traditional sci-fi without relying on action-based sci-fi or fights against aliens each week.
DEFYING GRAVITY- It is a sci-fi show from
Canada
that aired on ABC back in August and cancelled (and pulled) before the last five episodes could be aired. It goes back and forth between a interplanetary mission and five years ago when people were being trained
for the mission. I do think the alien in teh cargo hold thing could have been done away with and this show could
have been a solid drama about manned space travel. You can catch the whole series on DVD
