THE PRETENDER was a show I wished lasted for a few more seasons beyond the fourth season (the final one) and the two TNT
movies that followed. Jarod is the part that Michael T. Weiss will be remembered for. The storylines for The Centre become
mroe important this season as even one episode focuses on who killed Thomas ('TIL DEATH DO US PART) and another reveals what
really happened Miss Parker's mom (THE INNER SENSE). A few great episodes are in this season including ROAD TRIP and MELTDOWN(which
features Melinda Clarke). First, Jarod (Weiss) escapes from The Centre which kidnapped him as a kid in the first place and
continues on with becoming anyone to help other people in their struggles hwile trying to reveal things about The Centre to
the people who are tracking him down: Sydney (Patrick Bauchau), Broots, and Miss Parker (Andrea Parker). Things just keep
getting stranger as more is revealed about Mr, Parker, Mr. Lyle, and Mr. Raines. It's up to you which one of them is the most
evil.
SPIN DOCTOR is the first half of a crossover with PROFILER (the episode CLEAN SWEEP from PROFILER isn't included on the
set and neither is PIANISSIMO which also had Jarod in it). Hopefully the two PROFILER crossover episodes can be included in
the next DVD set which includes THE PRETENDER TV Movies (THE PRETENDER 2001 and ISLAND OF THE HAUNTED).
VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)
AUDIO: English 2.0 Dolby Surround, French DS, Spanish DS
Subtitles: English, Spanish
Video is great as always (transfers not bad at all- look as good as the best TV broadcasts or even better) and the audio
is about the same where the surround tracks are so-so when it comes to surround action.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Three audio commentaries were recorded:
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT by Series Creators Craig W. Van Sickle and Steven Long Mitchell, Supervising Producer/Writer Ethan
Matthew Lawrence and Executive producer/Writer Tommy Thompson
'TIL DEATH DO US PART by Van Sickle and Mitchell, Tommy Thompson and Actress Andrea Parker
COLD DICK by Van Sickle, Co-Producer/Writer Manny Coto and Actor Michael T. Weiss
The audio commentary with Andrea Parker is teh best of the three while the other twop don't live up to commentary tracks
on previous sets. Too bad they couldn't have paired Andrea with Michael for another commentary like they did for the season
2 finale. I do wish they picked episodes other than COLD DICK and RULES OF ENGAGEMENT to do audio commentaries for. Andrea
does reveal she might have directed an episode if the show wasn't cancelled after the fourth season.
Three featurettes appear on Side B of Disc 4.
JAROD'S MYTHOLOGY PART 1 focuses on Jarod and the characters getting darker for season 4.
JAROD'S MYTHOLOGY PART 2 is about the ongoing Center storylines and the cliffhanger season finale that was the last episode
of the series since NBC decided to go with the big flop known as the XFL.
LOOKING FOR CHIP GREENFELT talks about how much people enjoyed doing teh show and the creators hint that news on a third
movie for THE PRETENDER series may be coming soon.
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE PRETENDER Season 4 is a must-own for any fan of the show. I just wish the extras were as good as previous
sets.
