THE PRETENDER continued to grow with complexity with the third season. When you thought it couldn't get more twisted, it
just does from the identity of Miss Parker's brother to who her Dad is marrying and Jarod finally meeting his father. Also
the show reinforces the value of family whether it is twisted or not. Sydney finds out he has a son and Jarod gets a big shock
when he goes to search for his father. Miss Parker finds love and it might be her way out of the Centre. The big disappointment
of this set is that they couldn't include the episode of PROFILER (GRAND MASTER) that is the second part of THE PRETENDER/
PROFILER crossover (END GAME being part 1). My big hint to A&E Home Video (if they read this DVD review) is to package
the three PROFILER episodes where Jarod appears into a single disc release for fans of THE PRETENDER who don't want to buy
season 3 and 4 of PROFILER to get the appearances of Jarod (one in season 3 and two in season 4). I love the drama in
the Centre more than what is going on with Jarod's missions to help people. I can't wait for the best season to
come to DVD (season 4).
FAVORITE EPISODES: P.T.B., WAKE UP, DONATERASE
VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)
AUDIO: English 2.0 Dolby Surround, Spanish 2.0 DS, French 2.0 DS
Subtitles: English, Spanish
The video and audio are the same as on the second season set.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Series Creators Craig W. Van Sickle and Steven Long Mitchell are featured in audio commentaries for CRAZY,
IN THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH, and WAKE UP. CRAZY was originally thought of for the first season, but NBC objected to it. The two
creators do provide plenty of production info and hints to a lost episode (to be mentioned in the fourth season set). The
commentaries are a little bit of a letdown from the great commentary Michael T. Weiss and Andrea Parker did for season 2's
finale. I hope the cast members do rejoin for a commentary track or two on the next set.
The Making-Of featruette appears on DISC 2, Side B (Part 1), DISC 3, Side B (Parte 2), and DISC 4, Side B (Part 3). The
featurettes features interviews with many of the producers (the series creators, Tommy Thompson, Fred Keller, and others)
and cast (all except for Jon Gries and Jamie Denton). Part 1 focuses on Miss Parker, Mr. Raines, and Sydney finding out he
has a son. Part 2 goes into the return of Brigette, the love interest for Miss Parker- Thomas, and the wedding of Brigette
to Mr. Parker. Part 3 zeroes in on three episodes; WAKE UP, ENDGAME (Part 1 of THE PRETENDER/ PROFILER crossover), and DONATERASE
(the season finale).
FINAL ANALYSIS: Despite the lack of cast members on the audio commentaries, the third season is a must own for any fan
of THE PRETENDER who wants the show on DVD.
