Imagine if you ended up in a plane crash, one of 48 survivors, on a mysterious island. What would you do? How would you
react? What if a mysterious monster was also on the island. That basically describes the hit show LOST which is about to start
it's second season on ABC right after the first season hits DVD. LOST is an intriguing drama with a large cast: Jack (Matthew
Fox) the doctor, single father Walt, the mysterious Locke (Terry O'Quinn, Ex-Republican Guard Sayid (Naveen Andrews), the
Korean maried couple of Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sun (played by Daniel's real life wife), Boone and his step-sister Shannon(Maggie
Grace), Hurley, the confidence man Sawyer, and Kate (Evangeline Lilly). This show is must-see viewing every Wednesday when
a new episode is on. The way they intertwine the flashbacks of each character with what is going on the island is what helps
make it a great show. Also the questions that are brought up about the island and the characters keeps one plugged in. LOST
is a well-written addictive drama/mystery. If you haven't watched the show or haven't kept up with it on a regular basis,
I will try to be careful to not spoil it too much. My favorite characters of the show are Kate, Locke, Sayid, and Sawyer.
Jack is a little bland. Terry O'Quinn is doing some of his best acting work as Locke. I hope Locke is around for quite a while
and that he isn't the next character to die (one of the main characters died near the end of season one). LOST is fantastic
and you should check out this DVD set if you're a fan or someone who hasn't had the chance to check out this show.
VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)
AUDIO: English 5.1 Dolby Digital
Subtitles: English captions
Video quality is fine. Image detail is great. Colors and shadow values are
good. Audio gets a thumbs up.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Five audio commentaries were recorded for this set- PILOT
Part 1 & 2, WALKABOUT, THE MOTH, and HEARTS AND MINDS. he commenatry for HEARTS AND MINDS is one of the best of
them. Terry O'Quinn is on the commentary for WALKABOUT (I do wish they had him do a commentary for DUES EX MACHINA.
Most of the extras reside on disc 7. Sadly the LOST recap special that aired in April
doesn't appear on the disc. We do get two cut airport flashbacks from EXODUS Part 2 and 13 deleted scenes from
various episodes (but it would have been nicer to have them on the other discs for the episodes they belong to (I know the
last scene is cut from the season finale and some of the first deleted scenes come from the pilot)). The blooper
reel is amusing.
BEFORE THEY WERE LOST features screen tests for seven of the cast members while BACKSTAGE
WITH DRIVESHAFT focuses on the character of Charlie, his band, and how they came up with the one Driveshaft
song featured in the show.
WELCOME TO OAHU: THE MAKING OF THE PILOT is a detailed look at the making
of the pilot from the problems they had to the creativity used in making the show (I love the bit about the stuffed polar
bear they tried to launch with an air cannon). LOST: ON LOCATION focuses on eight different episodes of the first season.
LOST At Comic-Con has the cast and creators show up at the San Diego Comic-Con two months before the show premiered (as they
were amazed by the buzz around LOST and LIVE FROM THE MUSEUM OF TELEVISION & RADIO is an exceprt from a from a taped Q&A
with the cast & crew. ON SET WITH JIMMY KIMMEL is a comedic visit to the set of lost. THE ART OF MATTHEW FOX has narration
with Matthew Fox as he talks about the panoramic photos he shot for a book while doing the pilot. DESIGNING A DISASTER is
another featurette looking at the pilot and THE GENESIS OF LOST tells the story of how the show came about (and how the ball
rolled quickly after LOST was sold on a pitch). They wrote the script quickly and the pilot was shot soon after.
FINAL ANALYSIS: LOST Season One is a well put together DVD set. If you
haven't caught up with LOST, do it now. If you're a LOST fan, buy it.
