ANALYSIS: SLIDERS Season Three was a rough one as major creative changes happened. One of the cast leaves because he felt
SLIDERS wasn't living up to it's potential (and they even did a very terrible rewrite on his story for the two part EXODUS).
A new actor joins the cast, but Kari Wuhrer doesn't quite gell with the cast until next season. The real chemistry betweeen
the main cast is from the original four actors who were with the show since season one. Even with one actor leaving in the
middle of the season, the remaining original three had the chemistry that showed up on the screen.
Season Three was full of missed possibilities as no one capitalized on the return of Logan St. Clair from DOUBLE CROSS
or have the Kromaggs return (they only get a mention in THE OTHER SLIDE OF DARKNESS with clips from the second season episode,
INVASION). Other than the two episodes mentioned above, th best episodes of the season included SLIDE LIKE AN EGYPTIAN, MURDER
MOST FOUL, and THE BREEDER. However, many episodes were ripping off current movies like zombie movies (SOULD SURVIVORS), vampires
(STOKER), Species (THE BREEDER), and The Island of Dr. Moreau (THIS SLIDE OF PARADISE with Michael York playing a Dr. Moreau-like
character and he even starred in one of the film versions of Dr. Moreau). SLIDERS threw in an arc that lasted for sveral episodes,
but it didn't really work. SLIDERS would have to wait for realizing it's story potential with the fourth season.
VIDEO: 1.33:1 Full Frame
Video quality, colors and black levels, and image sharpness is about the same as the previous SLIDERS DVD set.
AUDIO: English 2.0 Dolby Surround
Subtitles: Spanish and French, English Captions
Dialogue is clearly heard. All sound elements come through OK.
EXTRAS: The gag reel consiss of line flubs, little mistakes, and Kari Wuhrer swearing once. Also included are bonus episodes
of CLEOPATRA 2525 and EARTH 2. A review at TVShowsOnDVD.com has noted that there is a dispute over what extras could have
been included on this set (one fan offered some extras for free and Universal never contacted the fan site). Too bad no cast
or crew audio commentaries were done for any of the episodes.
FINAL ANALYSIS: If you're a fan of SLIDERS, it is a no-brainer whether you should buy this DVD set or not. The only drawback
is the case that was designed to hold the discs. My advice to Universal is to use double disc thin digipack cases for the
next two season sets without designing elaborate cases to hold the discs.
