CRIMINAL MINDS most reminds me of a show that was ahead of it's time, MILLENNIUM. It struggled and survived on FOX for
3 years from 1996 to 1999. It goes to show that if MILLENNIUM had a different network, a different time slot, and came along
later that it might have been a hit like CRIMINAL MINDS which is shooting past LOST in the ratings in it's second season (and
airing on CBS). CRIMINAL MINDS is the type of show I put in a DVD and can't just watch one episode. I usually watched two
in one sitting. The cliffhanger is one that made me wish I could see the first episode of season 2 right now. It may not be
great as Chris Carter's classic cult series MILLENNIUM, but I hope it convinces someone to bring Frank Black (Lance Henrikson) back.
The spoken quotes at the start and end of each episode remind me of the quotes that would appear at the start of each MILLENNIUM
episode. Agent Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin) reminds me of Frank Black in some ways. Just like Frank Black, the agents
of the FBI Behavoiral Analysis Unit are criminal profilers. The cast is diverse from Mandy Patinkin (I remember him
from DEAD LIKE ME), Shemar Moore from THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS that drives women wild every time he appears on OPRAH, Thomas
Gibson (of DHARMA AND GREG), and Lola Glaudini (who I loved in the short-lived series THE HANDLER). I find CRIMINAL MINDS
a nice show to watch while i wait for LOST to return (note- I know LOST isn't airing against CRIMINAL MINDS anymore when LOST
returns on Feb 7th). I can't wait for season 2 to come to DVD.
The deleted scenes are in Full Frame and don't really add anything to the episodes they were cut from. Of the three featurettes
on disc 6, INSIDE QUANTICO & THE CRIMINAL MIND is the best while I rather meet some other cast member than see one called
MEET MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER. There is THE MAKING OF CRIMINAL MINDS. I hope they get the cast involved with teh audio commentaries
for season 2.
FINAL ANALYSIS: If you have discovered CRIMINAL MINDS in the second season or with the Super Bowl episode (or just a fan
of the show), you should buy or rent the season one set now. It is almost as good as the underrated MILLENNIUM.
