Chev Chelios (Jason Statham) is a
man who survived being poisoned by Chinese poison and falling from a helicopter. He
wakes to find himself having his organs harvested. He has an electric heart that
only lasts for an hour before he needs to get it fully charged again. He is on
a hunt across Los Angeles
to get back his heart. Along the way, he creates as much mayhem as he did last
time and comes across such characters as a crazy Asian hooker (Bai Ling), El Huron (aka The Ferret) who wants Chev dead, Johnny
Vang who is transporting Chev’s heart (or is he?).
CRANK 2 is over-the-top and outrageous
as the first CRANK. Some moments even made me laugh by how over-the-top directors
Neveldine and Taylor went. Dynamic and energetic camerawork sells the movie’s
action and humor. Don’t forget to hang around for the gag reel during the
end credits.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
Directors Neveldine and Taylor contribute
an audio commentary for the film.
The two part Making of Crank 2 featurette
is over fifty minutes long as it tells how CRANK 2 came to be, the actors involved, the digital video cameras (many of them
happened to be very small) and camerawork involved, the crazy acting of Bai Ling, the stunts, editing, and the digital effects
work. It is a fantastic and insightful making-of featurette that any aspiring
film student should check out.
CRANK 2 TAKE 2 shows all the shots that
show crew members and where the cameras were placed in certain scenes. Rounding
out the extras are the theatrical trailer, previews for other LIONSGATE films (including Neveldine/ Taylor’s
GAMER, and a digital copy of the film (on disc 2). The Blu-ray does have a couple
of extras not on the DVD (including a wrap party featurette).
FINAL ANALYSIS: CRANK 2 is an energetic and over-the-top action film that will shock you and entertain you.
