When I heard TRU CALLING was cancelled for a series called POINT PLEASANT, I was very disappointed. I was further saddened
when the pilot episode was nothing special. Now it is October and I have started watching the series from episode 2. Now I
was pleasantly surprised. It is a series about good and evil and the nature of both within each of us. Except for a few complaints
about the final episode, POINT PLEASANT should be given a second chance. A few actors I like or have seen somewhere else are
in this series: Richard Burgi, Dina Meyer, and James Morrison.
Christina (Elisabeth Harnois) is saved by a lifeguard, Jesse (Sam Page), off the shore of the coastal town of Point Pleasant.
She isn't your normal girl because she is the daughter of the Devil. Lucas Boyd (Grant Show) shows up in town soon after
to try to steer her to her destiny of becoming the Anti-Christ. The two things that stand in his way are the Kramers, a family
that took Christina in, and her growing attraction to Jesse. Christina is in Point Pleasant to find her mom, but events are
building to a head as a showdown between her and the one who was destined to destroy her might just happen. Judy Kramer finds
in Christina the sister she has been missing (since her older sister Isabelle died). Meg Kramer sees something in Christina
and treats her like a daughter. Ben Kramer is a man of science and he is blind to what is going on (and why Isabelle is keep
trying to send a tape to him he keeps destroying). Can Christina see the good in her and not become the evil that Boyd want
her to become and will Point Pleasant survive her choice?
I liked the way the arc unfolded and the characters developed including a look back at how Boyd started down the path of
working for Satan (and then finding out a twist to that story in later episodes). The actress who plays Paula is a definite
hottie. Fans of the show will enjoy the five unaired episodes on this set, but many will probably still be mad at FOX (for
canceling the show due to low ratings) after watching the final episode. POINT PLEASANT is a series that I couldn't wait to
watch the next episode. I hope the show does well on DVD.
VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)
The transfer is up there with the best ones for TV on DVD releases from FOX.
AUDIO: English 2.0 Dolby Surround
Subtitles: English, French, Spanish
The audio is excellent. The surround mix is pretty impressive. Listen to the storm during UNRAVELING
SPECIAL FEATURES: Sadly all we get is a 14 1/2 minute talky promo fluff featurette about the Making of POINT PLEASANT which
is full of talking heads and clips from the show. I would have loved to have a couple of episode audio commentaries and where
Marti Noxon would have went with the show if it was around for season 2.
MENUS/COVER AND DISC ART: The cover and disc art are top notch while the menus are just OK looking.
FINAL ANALYSIS: POINT PLEASANT may have tuned out many when it was on TV, but fans will sure enjoy it. If you want to give
POINT PLEASANT a second chance on DVD, here is your chance.
