HEX has said to be the British Buffy except HEX is a whole lot smarter and more addictive than most episodes of Buffy
The Vampire Slayer. I can't wait to see the next eight episodes (the rest of season 2 since the misnamed first season also
includes the first four episodes of season 2).
Cassie is a teeenage girl at a boarding school/college living a normal life with her lesbian roomate Thelma (who wants
to be more than friends) until Cassie finds some old Voodoo artifacts in the basement and starts developing teh abilities
of a witch. She attracts the attention fo Azazael, a fallen angel, who wants to impregnate her which means teh birth of
her child will release all of the other fallen angels or the Nephiliem. Thelma is sacrificed to feed Azazael's power and
she comes back as a ghost that only Cassie sees. The big bad fallenb angel is a sad and arrogant guy. He is played excellently
by Michael Fassbender. Thelma is also a hoot. Cassie comes across as a wet log to me (not very impressed), but things heat
up when a centries old witch, (Ella) comes ot the school and the story kicks into high gear. Even a few of the other characters
are interesting to follow like Leon who starts as a jerk and becomes likeable and Roxanne (who wants to bed the priest teacher-
Jez). So catch the show on DVD and wtach the next eight episodes on BBC America right now.
VIDEO: 1.78:1 (Anamorphic Widescreen)
AUDIO: English 2.0 Dolby Surround
A few scenes do look very grainy, but it might be due to filming in low light conditions.
SPECIAL FEATURES: A handful of deleted scenes for episode 4 and the spoilerish MAKING OF HEX featurette appear on disc
1. Avoid the featurette if you haven't watch season 2 (the last four episodes on this set and the next eight airing on BBC
America). Disc 2 has deleted scenes for episode 5 and one for episode 6. Disc 3 contains previews for CASINO ROYALE, BLOOD
AND CHOCOLATE, SEINFELD Season 8, and THE MESSENGERS.
FINAL ANALYSIS: HEX is smart and addictive. After the last episode, ELLA BURNS, I can't wait for the next eight episodes
to come to DVD.
