TWIN PEAKS The Second Season
DVD Review by David Blackwell
DETAILS: 1081 minutes (22 eisodes on six discs, interviews, interactive interview grid
STUDIO: Paramount/ CBS DVD/ Lynch Frost productions/ CBS Paramount TV
RELEASE DATE: 4-3-2007
TWIN PEAKS is David Lynch's surreal soap opera which didn't last that long. It attracted viewers first before people
decided not to walk with this show as the prime mystery was solved almost halfway into the second season (who killed Laura
Palmer). Special Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) is onje of the characters who holds this series together
and makes it very watchable whether he is talking to a giant in his dream or talking to the One Armed Man (yep, Twin Peaks
creators have a love for THE FUGITIVE TV series). Don Davis plays an Air Force Major before his most famous
acting role as General Hammond on STARGATE SG-1 while David Duchovny dresses it up as a transvestite FBI agent before he was
Special Agent Fox Mulder. TWIN PEAKS was a starting point before some actors before they went on to bigger
TV shows that lasted longer than TWIN PEAKS brief two seasons. I'm still watching the set, but I can't wait to
see the weird cliffhanger episodes I have read about years ago in one of the David Lynch books I read. I am sad the
series didn't last longer because it is very quirk at times while downright eerie at other moments. It is
very much a series that David Lynch left his fingerprints all over from the references to Montana (Kalispell, Missoula, Hungry
Horse) and appearing as Cooper's near death FBI supervisor. Very few shows are as great as TWIN PEAKS and many
are only as half as good. I just wish people paid more attention to TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME and gave Lynch
a chance to do the other two TWIN PEAKS films he had planned all those years ago.
VIDEO: 1.33:1 (Full Frame)
The episodes have been remastered from the original negatives with supervision from David Lynch. The transfers look
nice and clean.
AUDIO: English 5.1, Spanish Mono, Brazillian Portuguese Mono Dolby Digital
Subtitles: English, Spanish, Portuguese
No complaints in the audio department. The 5.1 mix is all new for this set.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Disc 1 has an interview with teh author of laura Palmer's Diary (Jennifer Lynch) and discs 2 to
6 have an interview with a series director. Disc 6 has an interactive interview grid for 12 actors involved in the show
including Kyle MacLachlan, David Duchovny, Don Davis, Madchen Amick, Sherilyn Fenn, and others. Each interview bit in
the grid is 1 to 2 minutes long (about over 3 minutes per actor). Also you can play the episodes with or without
the Log Lady Introductions (which can viewed on their own too).
What isn't included on this set are deleted scenes which probably will be included when Paramount releases the pilot movie
(never released to DVD in north America), Season 1, and Season 2 as TWIN PEAKS: THE COMPLETE MYSTERY in November.
Maybe even the deleted scenes from FIRE WALK WITH ME will be included. I hope we get some input from David Lynch by
the way of interviews for the upcoming set.
FINAL ANALYSIS: If you just want the show and want to experience season 2, buy it now. if you want everything,
wait for the big TP set later this year.
