NYPD detective Sara Pezzini (Yancy Butler) was destined to weild the Witchblade, a weapon of great power that can only be worn by women. The Witchblade draws evil to it and causes Sara to investigate even weirded cases than before. Kenneth Irons wants to control whomever weilds the Witchblade. His bodyguard Ian Nottingham is in love with Sara and he is torn between his love for her and his loyalty to his master. Sara is helped in her quest to discover the history of past Witchblade wielders (including Joan Of Arc) by Gabriel who has the hots for her and runs an online collectibles business dealing in icons and talismans. Also she is haunted by the ghost of her dead partner Danny during teh first season.

WITCHBLADE is better than I remembered it. The series has grown on me more. I first thought the TV series as hit-an-miss when it first aired. I was more of a fan of the comic book series. However, a watch of the entire series on DVD has revealed all of the little touches I missed before or didn't remember. Too bad WITCHBLADE only lasted for two seasons. It's cancellation could have been due to the people running programming at TNT at the time and/or star Yancy Butler's battle with alcohol which delayed the production start of season 2. The mythology of the series is partly built out of history and mythical tales. The end of season 1 provided a reboot for the series which oddly enough built on the mythology of season 2 while taking on storylines closer to the type you see in the comic book series and stories like the one you see in various anime series.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Two featurettes are on disc seven-
WIELDING THE BLADE: it focuses on the Witchblade design for the TV series and how it differs from the comic book.
BRINGING THE BLADE TO LIFE: interviews with cast and crew as they talk about the comic book and the TV series.

The original casting sessions are boring and are only for hardcore fans of the actors.

Gabriel's Philosophical Insights are for selected episodes and I think they were originally presented on the internet.

FINAL ANALYSIS: I'm a big fan of the comic book and my reviewing of the TV series makes the show even better than I remembered it. I do wish Warner Bros. designed a better case to hold the discs in since disc 7 is the one to come loose easily.
