ELI STONE struck a chord with a few people. It shined brightly with its off-the-wall concept and zaniness. Jonny Lee Miller is Eli Stone, a lawyer suffering from what may be visions from God. Is he a prophet? The visions lead him to clients he must help
in court. Also he forms a firm with his boss Jordan, who has seen the light
and wants to take up Eli’s cause in helping people and not the big corporations he used to represent with the firm he
used to be part of. The new firm has money problems as Jordan
has to deal with a divorce from his second wife. Meanwhile, Jordan’s
daughter (Natasha Henstridge) aka Eli’s ex has to deal with a new relationship and pregnancy. Then Eli also struggles to find love and one wonders if he will ever hook up with young lawyer Maggie.
ELI STONE features some fantastic visual
vision sequences and good character development in addition to some guest stars (Sigourney Weaver in THE PATH and Katie Holmes
in Grace). I am sad the show
is cancelled because it was a different type of lawyer show. It wasn’t
just about court cases. Most importantly, it is about the characters and Eli’s
path in life. TV needs more shows like this one to last longer.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
DANCING IN THE STREETS- a look at the filming
of the musical dance number in THE PATH and recording the music for it
GOOD MORNING ELI WITH SAM & JULIE-
behind-the-scenes in the day of two actors, Sam Jaeger (Matt Dowd) and Julie Gonzalo (Maggie).
Rounding out the extras are two minutes
of funny bloopers and three deleted scenes.
FINAL ANALYSIS: ELI STONE is a good show to check out on DVD. If you
haven’t seen either season, start with season one and then watch season two.
I do wish this set had more extras like season 1 and will miss the show.
Too bad it got cancelled.
