RESEARCH: A TRUE-LIFE ADVENTURE- the filmmakers travel to Animal Kingdom and Africa to get inspiration for the various animal characters in the movie

THE ORIGIN OF THE ANIMAL TALE:  a look at the story’s development which started as a story from Nick’s POV before they shifted it from its cynical tone to focus on the character of Judy Hopper and threw out the taming shock collars

ZOOLOGY: THE ROUNDTABLES with introductions by Ginnifer Goodwin:

CHARACTERS- the animators talk about the various characters and animation challenges

ENVIRONMENTS- a focus on the various environments of Zootopia where they made the decision to have Zootopia be based on various climates

ANIMATION- the animation supervisors talk about animating the movie and the challenges of animating fur for 64 different species and the way clothes hangs on the animal characters

 

SCORETOPIA: composer Michael Giacchino talks about the percussionists used in the movie and the organic, animalistic sound in the movie score

Z.P.D. FORENSIC FILES:      a look at some of the Easter Eggs in the movie that has hidden references to Mickey Mouse, Big Hero 6, and Frozen

 

TRY EVERYTHING music video by Shakira

Deleted characters featurette and about a half hour of deleted scenes (with introductions by directors Byron Howard and Rich Moore) that has some alternate versions of scenes in the movie (with some of the animation finished) and scenes from the previous version of ZOOTOPIA before they shifted it from Nick’s POV

 

An International Character Reel which shows the variances in news reporters in ZOOTOPIA is a digital HD exclusive unfortunately and not on the blu-ray disc itself

 

ZOOTOPIA is also presented in standard definition on DVD with the SCORETOPIA featurette and Shakira music video as extras

Rounding out the combo pack is a code to download and stream a digital HD copy of ZOOTOPIA

 

FINAL ANALYSIS: ZOOTOPIA is a music Disney animated movie about believing in yourself that you can do anything (despite what others say).  Some of the scenes are homages to other movies (like THE GODFATHER and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE).  The extras are great as they trace how the movie developed from a cynical tale from Nick the Fox’s POV before changing the main character POV to Judy Hopper.
