THE MEG is about a research facility called Mana One (funded by a self important billionaire played by Rainn Wilson) who recruits one of the best deep depth submersible pilots named Jonas Taylor (Jason Statham) to rescue the crew of damaged sub which is piloted by Jonas's ex-wife. The rescue of the damaged sub traces back to Jonas Taylor's last rescue of people from a nuclear submarine five years ago (where no one believed Jonas what caused the sub to implode) because both accidents were the result of 75 foot shark known as a megalodon. The rescue of the crew triggers attacks by the megalodon closer to the surface as Jonas must team up with other people in Mana One including a father and daughter researcher team, Minway Zhang and Suyin Zhang (the beautiful Li Bingbing) to track and destroy the megalodon before it poses a risk to bigger populations of people. Plenty of chemistry is ignited between Statham and Bingbing along with a great blend of action, adventure, and humor. It is a very enjoyable big budget popcorn movie that I hope they don't make a sequel to despite the fact THE MEG did pull in around $500 million at the box office. You can either rent it or own it because THE MEG is highly enjoyable.

FINAL ANALYSIS: THE MEG is a fun big budget B movie adventure that I hope I will watch again sometime. I hope they don't make a sequel to this one even though it was a very successful movie around the world. I wish the blu-ray did have more detailed extras and an audio commentary instead of around 20 minutes of promotional fetaurettes.
