THE NEW MUTANTS is a muddled mess that is better than some of the worst X-MEN movies and not as good as the best of those
films. The female mutant characters are more defined than the male characters. If you're a fan of THE NEW MUTANTS comics,
you will get more out of this movie than you haven't read any or most of the comics. It is like a haunted asylum movie with
mutant characters from the X-Men universe and I enjoyed the character of Illyana Rasputin (Anya Taylor Joy) the best along
with her Lockheed puppet as you wonder if there is an actual Lockheed or not as Illyana talks with the puppet through the
film.
THE NEW MUTANTS has a troubled release history. It kept getting delayed by 20th Century Fox due to various factors like
wanting reshoots to up the horror (reshoots that never happened), the sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney, and a pandemic that
shut down theaters temporarily (but most theaters are reopening by now). Then a planned end credits scene was nixed after
the sale of 20th Century Fox to Disney Now renamed 20th Century Studios, THE NEW MUTANTS has finally seen release. You may
want to watch it at home whether you rent it or buy if you're concerned about COVID-19 lurking like some invisible super villain
waiting to do battle with our lives. IT isn't the worst movie of the 20th Century X-MEN Universe, but it isn't the best
either.
