SYNOPSIS (taken from Amazon): A small town video game store clerk must go from zero to hero after accidentally unleashing the forces of evil from a cursed Colecovision video game cartridge...

Max Jenkins' gaming fantasies collides with reality when a legendary lost installment of the 1980's Nether Game series appears on the store counter of his workplace. Unbeknownst to Max, the old game cartridge bears a "Curse of The Ages", and in playing it, he has just unlocked "The Nether", an ancient malevolent force of evil upon his small hometown.

Along with a mysterious masked man and his two best friends, Liz and Reggie, Max must figure out how to beat the Nether at it's own game before it's Game Over for humanity.

ANALYSIS: I somewhat enjoyed this movie, but the trailer makes it look better than it is. It has some nostalgia for the 1980s video games, but MAX RELOAD AND THE NETHER BLASTERS doesn't come together like SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD did as a movie. I say it is more of a movie to enjoy as a rental instead of buying it on blu-ray unless you're a big fan of this movie. The main cast is OK, but veteran actors Greg Grunberg and Kevin Smith kinda steal the movie from the rest of the cast whenever they're in a scene. Kevin Smith has a glorified cameo with a few scenes while Greg provides great supporting acting to this movie which I wish was written better since it tries to honor 1980s video games and the computer gamer culture at the same time.

FINAL ANALYSIS: MAX RELOAD AND THE NETHER BLASTERS is OK enough to rent, but you shouldn't buy it unless you really loved this movie. A script that is weak in some scenes also has the lead cast being outshined by Greg Grunberg and Kevin Smith.
