IRON SKY: THE COMING RACE is the long awaited sequel to IRON SKY. It is an entertaining sequel to the brilliant sci-fi satire of many years ago, but it isn't as good as the first movie that spawned the universe. After a brief prologue of President Palin being flown by helicopter from Washington DC to a bunker in Antarctica (which I don't how that would work) and President Putin doing a shirtless workout in Russia, the story moves forward to about 45 years (the year 2064) after the events of the first movie. The former Nazi moon base is a refuge for the last of humanity that is short on supplies and plagued by moonquakes. The only one that cares to keep the systems of the base running is Obi, the daughter of the base's leader Renate Richter. Some of the people have fallen in with an iPhone based religion and they are called Jobists. One of the old Nazi moon saucers comes home to the moon and it contains more survivors (and a mysterious figure from the past). Obi, one of her friends, the Russian pilot of the saucer, and a few of the Jobists set out for the center of the Earth where the Earth is actually hollow and it is home to a race of immortal shape shifting lizard aliens known as Vril. The leaders of the Vril are recognizable bad guys from across history including Hitler and Stalin. Obi must obtain the Vril power source known as the Holy Grail to save humanity.

If you enjoyed the first IRON SKY, don't expect a repeat of greatness from the long-awaited sequel. It sidesteps two of the main characters from the first movie to focus on a new batch of characters I really don't care much for. Then the plot isn't as interesting as the first movie's plot. The concept of the Hollow Earth and the coming Race title (which is inspired by the novel of the same name and brings up the Vril about 150 years before the movie did). The script isn't very fleshed out and it comes off as a B movie where the first movie elevated itself above the B movie concept. The mid-credits scene at the end of the movie teases another movie, but I wish they fleshed out IRON SKY: THE COMING RACE more with more time in the Hollow Earth for example and not sidelining Renate for most of the movie.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
There are none and unfortunately Vertical didn't release this on blu-ray. The Iron Sky YouTube channel has plenty of video blogs and trailers which could have been included on a DVD and blu-ray release. This is really a letdown compare to the extras packed blu-ray releases for IRON SKY and IRON SKY the dictator's cut (Director’s Cut).

FINAL ANALYSIS: IRON SKY: THE COMING RACE is an enjoyable B-movie sequel which isn't quite as good as the sci-fi satire of the first movie. It is sad that this movie didn't get a blu-ray release and none of the internet extras were presented on the disc. Now we must wait for the next film, IRON SKY: THE ARK.
