TERMINATOR: DARK FATE
movie review by David Blackwell

128 minutes
STUDIO: Paramount Pictures/ 20th Century Fox/ Tencent Pictures
Theatrical RELEASE DATE: 11-1-2019

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE is the sixth movie in the TERMINATOR series, but it ignores the last three and acts as a direct sequel to TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY. This is the first sequel that James Cameron has been involved with since T2 and it also marks Linda Hamilton's return to the series as Sarah Connor. The Resistance sends Grace (Mackenzie Davis) back to the past to protect Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes) from the Rev-9 Terminator (Gabriel Luna). Dani's day is upended as she is on the run with Grace and Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) with the Rev-9 in hot pursuit. The future may have been changed by Sarah Connor, but the machines still want to prevent the resistance of humans in the future.

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE is a better sequel than T3 was and it also was better than parts of TERMINATOR: GENESYS. The action scenes and actors are the highlight of this new TERMINATOR movie which will still lose money due to weak box office performance and the audience has unfortunately moved on from the TERMINATOR series. It is great to see Linda Hamilton back, but Arnold Schwarzenegger played a better good T-800 in TERMINATOR: GENESYS. The big problem with the TERMINATOR series is that it always trying to go big and having it involving time travel. TERMINATOR: SALVATION (regardless of its faults) tried to do something different from the same plot that has populated the other five TERMINATOR movies. Also TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES tried to be a better take on the mythos and sadly only lasted for two seasons. If TERMINATOR gets another chance with another movie, they need to take risks and aim for a lower budget approach if we expect fans to watch the TERMINATOR movies.
