DESTROYER is a gritty crime drama that manages to be one of the best films from last year not many people saw as it was released during rewards season as Fox Searchlight was gunning to get it up for consideration. Nicole Kidman is fascinating as broken LAPD detective Erin Bell as she investigates why a bill from a years old case she was undercover for shows up in the mail addressed to her. She reflects back on the case where the FBI sends her undercover with another operative (Sebastian Stan) to stop a criminal gang led by Silas (Toby Kebbell), but various members of the gang ended up disappearing after a bank robbery that she and her partner failed to stop.

Director of Photography Julie Kirkwood provides a very washed out sunshine drenched world that fits with the Theodore Shapiro music score. The transformation between how Nicole Kidman's character between two different time periods is impressive to show an idealistic police office in the past vs. a weathered beaten down veteran of now. Erin Bell is all characterized by the flaws of being an absent mother with a rebellious teenage daughter who doesn't respect Erin at all. DESTROYER is one of the best crime dramas to watch if you need something to rent or stream or even buy.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
Commentary with Director Karyn Kusama and the Commentary with Writers Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi provide a broad look at the movie from two perspectives

Breaking of an Anti-Hero: The Making of Destroyer (19:06) chronicles how the movie came about, Nicole Kidman wanted the role, the director going out to get female crew members to be part of the crew, and various other tidbits about the production mixed with behind-the-scenes footage, clips, and cast/ crew interviews.

FINAL ANALYSIS: DESTROYER is a must-see gritty crime drama with another great transformative performance from Nicole Kidman.
