Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer Cheung (Andy Lau) went undercover to stop a group of killer thieves and the operation results in part of the gang being stopped and the leader Peng Hong getting away (and Peng Hong's brother being arrested). Cheung believes working at the EOD is something that is divinely ordained and that God helps him do the dangerous job where he knows he might have to sacrifice himself to save lives. About three years later, Peng Hong is back with a plan of revenge against Cheung and the city of Hong Kong. Part of his plan is to hold a major underwater tunnel aka the Cross Harbor Tunnel (which goes under Hong Kong harbor) for ransom along with several hostages who are trapped with his gang of mercenaries and two trucks armed with enough C4 to destroy and flood the tunnel.

SHOCK WAVE is a high energy Chinese action film which combines great action direction and characters you care for. The movie takes its time to develop all of the characters from the protagonists and bad guys and the hostages as the movie takes place around the tunnel hostage situation for at least half of the running time. Herman Yau has put together an awesome Chinese/ Hong Kong action film.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
MAKING OF- BOMB DISPOSAL EXPERT is a 2 ½ minute promotional featurette about the movie and the EOD Bureau with behind-the-scenes clips, interviews, and clips from the movie.

Also on the disc is the theatrical trailer for SHOCK WAVE and previews for other releases from Cinedigm (which play before the main menu loads).

FINAL ANALYSIS: SHOCK WAVE is an entertaining action film (which is sometimes bittersweet at times) for a rental. It might not be original, but the action sequences will keep you watching.
