Ryan Varrett (Steve Austin) rolls into
the town of Hope,
Washington. The only thing on his mind is vengeance against a murderous biker
gang led by Drayke (Danny Trejo).
RECOIL is an average and forgettable action
film that is only fit for rental. It relays on too many close ups and a
script that only holds itself together by serviceable action scenes. It
makes me think that Danny Trejo did this film so that he could work with Steve Austin.
Danny only makes a poor excuse of a bad guy compared to the bad guy roles he played in other films. I even think Machete would be done with this biker gang real quick and wave goodbye to Ryan faster
than the rate Ryan takes care of the bad guys in this film. RECOIL is a very
predictable film where the action is quick and forgettable. Fans of Steve
Austin and Danny Tejo will turn up to watch the film and some may hope Serinda Swan will be attractive enough to make viewers
stay (but her character hasn't much to do except to be saved by Steve Austin).
I hate to say it, but Jean Claude Van Damme and Steve Seagal are getting better direct-to-video material than Steve
Austin.
Then you have the issue of a poor video
transfer. The blacks are muddy.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
THE MAKING OF RECOIL- a quick promotional
featurette including interviews with cast and crew
Deleted scenes include material mainly
cut for pacing reasons which would have slowed the film down in the beginning.
Also included is the trailer for RECOIL.
FINAL ANALYSIS: RECOIL is an action rental for a rainy day and fans of Steven Austin or Danny Trejo. I only hope Steve Austin gets better movies to star in because I don't think anyone will remember
RECOIL after watching it. If you're
an action fan, go see a better movie with Steve Austin or MACHETE with Danny Trejo.
