Harry Pearce (Peter Firth) is now facing major fallout from his
actions as the head of Section D (part of MI-5), but those consequences are delayed as he is asked to watch over the quiet negotiations
between the United Kingdom and Russia as they seek to form an alliance. The CIA doesn't want the new relationship to
form. Even worse, the head of the head of the talks is Russian Minister Ilya Gavrik who was the Cold War rival of Harry's
during the Cold War. Harry turned Gavrik's wife, Elena (Alice Krige) to be a spy for the West during the early 1980s
in Berlin, Germany. Then he had to burn her as a spy before he could send her to England.
Someone is working hard to make sure the new partnership between
the UK and Russia doesn't go forward. Harry and Section D race to uncover proof on the people behind it. However,
this final season proves that nothing is simple in the lives of spies as Harry may be facing a future outside of MI_5. Will
he be sailing into the sunset with Ruth (fellow MI-5 agent) or will other plans derail Harry's life?
MI-5 (aka SPOOKS) is a spy series I love. It is an intense
British drama that developed and changed over the years. The enemies may have changed, but some enemies are still the
same with different faces. The show developed into stories about the spies of MI-5. In the end, it became about
the story of Harry and the sacrifices he had to make to protect Queen and country. I will miss this series as many
spies in MI-5 met their unexpected ends during the course of the series. I found this to be a grittier and more realistic
show than 24. MI-5 dealt with the lives of spies and the people they interact with in addition to the people
they have to stop (and the lives that are sacrificed along the way).
This final season throw some surprises with two unexpected deaths
(one of those deaths leaves the show ending on a bittersweet note). The new female lead I really liked while I loved
the quick reappearance of one of the old characters from the series (I wish they gave more screen time to this character instead
of a blink and you will miss it moment). A couple of moments I did guess before the characters did while other twists
took me by great surprise.
