MANDRILL is done in a 1960s/ 1970s action film style. The martial arts sequences are incredible and so is the charm of lead actor
Marko Zaror (aka the Latin Dragon). It is sometimes lighthearted and I
think it would make a perfect candidate for a double feature with HAYWIRE (when it comes to DVD and Blu-ray).
MANDRILL starts with a bounty hunter code-named
Mandrill whose sole life mission is to track down the one eyed man who killed his parents when he was a kid. Antonio
aka Mandrill (Marko Zaror) has one weakness- women. He sought the aid of his uncle in how to seduce women when Antonio
was growing up. He has finally found the target he has been searching for and it gets complicated when he falls
for the beautiful Dominique. His life starts to turn into a tragedy like his movie hero he was inspired
by (who got the women, had a tragic past, and always stopped the bad guys).
MANDRILL is the perfect movie for a rainy day rental.
The action (like I said above) is fantastic. The movie is enjoyable for a time waster as I wonder what levels
Marko Zaror could go if he had a better film to showcase his talents. I wouldn't mind a sequel to MANDRILL even
though sometimes the film feels like a 1970s guilty pleasure/ kitschy action film.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The US Theatrical Trailer is included in addition
to some very boring Behind-The-Scenes footage and alas too long Anatomy of a Fight Scene featurettes which would have benefited
from edited down and edited in with interviews with cast and crew.
FINAL ANALYSIS: MANDRILL is the perfect
rainy day rental. watch it for the fantastic action of star Marko Zaror- hopefully he will get better films to
raise his action profile.
