Richard Cypher is the Seeker (with the Sword of Truth). He has defeated Darken Rahl (who is now in the Underworld).
However, the death of Darken Rahl (that was a result of the destruction of the Boxes of Orden) has caused a rift to open between
the land of the living and the Underworld. The Keeper, the master of the Underworld, wants to destroy all life
and has Darken Rahl and banelings do his bidding (banelings are dead people who kill each day for a chance to keep living).
Richard, Kahlan (the mother Confessor and the woman Richard can never be with), Zedd (a great wizard and Richard's grandfather),
and Cara (the Mord'Sith who looks to redeem herself for all the evil she has done) go on a quest to find the Stone Of the
Tears which can seal the rift to the Underworld. Richard and his comrades face challenges from the like of banelings,
Darken Rahl's army that are left behind to cause terror, and even prophecies (that say Richard will fail and hand the Stone
to the enemy of the Light).
Season two is better than the first season. It explores the consequences of the death of Darken Rahl and the chaos
it causes in addition to the tear in the fabric that allows the Underworld to spread more evil. Richard goes on his
own journey in addition to the series exploring the pasts of Cara and Zedd. This epic fantasy series was only
getting even better when it was cancelled. the New Zealand production values lend alot to the fantasy feel of
the series that I wish the producers could continue.
SPECIAL FEATURES:
The deleted and extended scenes were cut for pacing even though a scene where Zedd explains his trip to another reality
is a good scene (which doesn't fit in the overall urgency of the episode).
Only two featurettes and no audio commentaries.
REDEMPTION OF A MORD'SITH: MEET CARA- Actress Tabrett Bethell and the producers talk about Cara's journey
UNDER THE UNDERWORLD- the production team discuss the mythology of the Underworld in addiition to how they created
it for the TV screen.
FINAL ANALYSIS: THE LEGEND OF THE SEEKER is a fantastic fantasy series which I wished lasted for more than two
series. if you're into LORD OF THE RINGS or other fntasy sagas, check out this show's two seasons on DVD.
