Jacques Mesrine (Vincent Cassel) is a legendary criminal.   He robbed many banks, killed people, and broke out of four prisons.   KILLER INSTINCT is part 1 of a two film crime epic.   The movie starts with Mesrine about to back from Algeria.   He gets home after having served in the military.  He soon drifts under the wing of criminal Guido (Gerad Depardieu).  He starts robbing houses and banks.   He gets married and has kids with a Spanish girl named Sophia.   It is not until he meets his match in Jeanne Schneider that his life as a criminal really takes off.   He and Jeanne are like a French version of Bonnie and Clyde.

KILLER INSTINCT is epic and engaging- it blends drama, action, and romance.   Cassel gives another stellar performance as Mesrine.   He allows us to like this smart and daring criminal.  The two Mesrine films are based on the autobiography written by the real Mesrine.   If you're looking for an energetic crime drama like Scaraface, check out the MESRINE films (the second part will be out on March 28th).

EXTRAS:   I wish Music Box would include more than just the theatrical trailer because I want to see cast interviews, making-of featurettes, and maybe even an audio commentary.   MESRINE is skimping on extras like the MILLENNIUM trilogy (and don't get me started on the box set with the extra disc).
