THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY follows the journey of Hassan to become a great journey and his family to find a home for their new restaurant which happens to be 100 feet away from a high class French place owned by widowed Madam Mallory (Helen Mirren) who feels like she has a stick up her butt when it comes to the new Indian place opened up by Hassan’s father.   Hassan finds friendship and a possible relationship in Marguerite (Charlotte LeBon), a sous chef working for Madam Mallory.   It is about the struggles of Hasan to be a great chef and his family to find a new place they can call home (which happens to be a small French town since the brakes of the family vehicle fails outside of town).

The movie is one of those feel good (food porn) dramas where you will be sucked in by the relationship and drama while making you hungry at times (and wonder about why some of these fancy French dishes are worth it given the cost and small serving sizes).  I liked it for a one time viewing even though I know this film does go out of its way to manipulate your feelings.   I do wish the ending went a little further instead of leaving it up to your imagination of what might happen next.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY WITH STEVEN SPIELBERG & ORPAH WINFREY- Steven Spielberg and Oprah discuss the film, casting, and food

THE RECIPE, THE INGREDIENTS, THE JOURNEY- behind-the-scenes of the film as you visit the locations and talk about the story and the food

ON SET WITH OPRAH WINFREY- a quick featurette where Oprah visits the fully realized sets of the movie

COCONUT CHICKEN- see how this Indian-inspired dish is made

Also included is a code to instantly stream and download a Digital HD copy of the film for Computers, Smartphones, Tablets, and TVs.

FINAL ANALYSIS:   THE HUNDRED-FOOT JOURNEY will appeal to fans of feel good dramas plus it also has a good range of diversity in the cast.   The performances are great and it makes me want to go to an Indian food place.
