STARRING Jason Statham (ex-DEA Agent Phil Broker), James Franco (Gator Bodine), Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth, Clancy Brown

Screenplay by Sylvester Stallone

Directed by Gary Felder

Ex- DEA Agent Phil Broker is in retirement in a small Louisiana town with his 10 year old daughter when he gets the attention of local meth producer Gator Bodine (James Franco in one of his “why in the hell did he do this role” performances).    He is raising his ten year old daughter in a quiet small town and building houses with his black buddy.   Everything is great until his daughter defends herself against a boy bully.  Her meth addicted mother is offended and goes to her brother gator to seek some payback against Broker and his daughter which leads to some of Broker’s past colliding with him.  HOEMFRONT also features Clancy Brown (as a small town sheriff who ends up for the party after the fact), Winona Ryder (who has had better roles), and Kate Bosworth (n the thankless role as a school guidance counselor who Broker likes).   I wonder how everyone decided to do this movie with a lackluster script from Sylvester Stallone in a movie that feels like an average made for cable movie you stumble upon while channel surfing.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

The deleted scenes consist of extended and alternate scenes with the last one being an extended ending (thankfully edited down).

STANDOFF is a quick promo featurette that ahs an interview with screenwriter Sylvester Stallone.  Rounding of the extras are previews for other movies (and a few more including a trailer for SABOTAGE play before the menu.

FINAL ANALYSIS: Jason Statham is wasted talent in a movie that doesn’t have enough action in a script from Sylvester Stallone that doesn’t feel dramatic enough.  HOEMEFRONT unfortunately plays out like an average made for cable movie you catch one night while channel surfing.  Rent it or better yet track down a better Jason Statham movie like the recent REDEMPTION.
