Hank Moody ends up in a chemical treatment clinic at the request of his ex-wife, his friends, and his daughter.   He meets his new muse named Faith (Maggie Grace) and his agent Charlie ends up pretending to be gay to land a gay actor as a client.   Soon Hank is working with rock star Atticus Fetch to turn Hank’s novel, A Crazy Thing Called Love, into a rock musical for Broadway.   Hank fights with his same old demons with the hope of getting back with the first love of his life, Karen, for the thousandth time.  Meanwhile, Hank’s and Karen’s daughter Becca decides to drop out of college and follow Hank’s lifestyle so she can be a writer like him to Hank’s horror.

The sixth season of CALIFORNICATION sees the characters make some of the same old mistakes while you wonder if they will ever resolve their problems and face their demons.  His season is all about the characters facing their demons and learning to grow, but you wonder if it will be too late for Hank to redeem himself in Karen’s eyes.   It seems to be the same for the central characters except Becca is the only one being developed further as a character.  The other characters seem to be stuck in the same old rut.   The new season seems to be more outrageous than the previous season.  The guest stars are fun to watch like Maggie Grace (as Faith) and Marilyn Manson who features as a heavy guest star in one episode (THE DOPE SHOW).

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Sadly, no real extras focusing on the show on the DVD release.  They only included the first two episodes of RAY DONOVAN.  I know it might be too much to hope for, but I wish they would really include some decent extras for the show on the seventh and final season when it comes to DVD.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  The sixth season of CALIFORNICATION is fun to watch, but it seems to be stuck in a rut as it treads the status quo and only looks to top itself with more outrageous stuff than the previous season.
