Major Jack Jones (Sean Bean) is given the mission to put together a small team of British commandos during World War 2.   Their mission is to sabotage and bring back intelligence from a Nazi radar facility in Norway known as Freya.   This is the beginning of Operation Grendel which is based on the true story of the start of the 30 Commando unit formed by Ian Fleming (the creator of James Bond).   Jack's team includes a disobedient soldier named Rains (Danny Dyer) and Roger Rollright (John Dagleish)- a smart military guy who knows all about radar.  AGE OF HEROES is a good British World War 2 film which has decent character development and a good buildup to an ending which feels a little rushed.   It leaves the fate of one character up in the air while I wish they spent more time of the commandos fighting the Nazi commandos.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
AN AGE OF HEROES-- a making of documentary which partly focuses on the real 30AU commandos from World War 2 (including interviews form surviving 30 members and archival photos and film) while the other part focuses on the making of the film.  At 14 minutes, it does come across as too brief even though it is somewhat interesting.

Also on the disc are Interview soundbites with various cast members and the director.   The blooper reel is a little long at six minutes and not very amusing.  The deleted scenes were cut for pacing while the b-roll footage shows some behind-the-scenes stuff between takes.

Rounding out the disc are the theatrical trailer and previews for other releases form Entertainment One.

FINAL ANALYSIS:   AGE OF HEROES is a decent war movie rental.   If you're a fan of war films of Sean Bean, you'll enjoy it despite the film needing a better resolution.
