Tim (Domhall Gleeson) finds out about the big family secret (after the New Year’s Eve party) at his family’s house from his father (Bill Nighy) that the men in the family can time travel by stepping into a dark closet and closing their eyes (and clenching their fists) that they can go anywhere in their past.   Tim decides to use his ability to time travel for romance and sometimes to change the outcome of a situation (or try to), but he learns sometimes you can do as much harm as the changes you are trying to do for the better.  He meets a girl named Mary (Rachel McAdams who was also the love interest in THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE) who happens to have the same first name as his mother.

ABOUT TIME is a delightful and charming romantic comedy.  You can in some aspects think of it as a British romantic comedy version of THE TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE, but it is from the point of view of the time traveler who can actually control where he goes and when.  The cast is absolute brilliant from Domhall Gleeson as Tim to Rachel McAdams (who is delight in this film) to Bill Nighy (who can either play the hell out of being a really nice guy or a caring father or a sinister bad guy) to all the various actors in supporting roles.  The time travel aspect is treated as matter of fact from the point of view of what an ordinary person would do with it and not using anything fancy to show the time traveling.  Writer/ Director Richard Curtis have crafted one of the most funny and romantic movies I have seen in years that I know I can watch over and over.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Richard Curtis gives intro to four deleted scenes that are all very funny (especially the Abbey Road scene) and ultimately cut to bring down the length of the film (and tighten the pacing).

BLOOPER REEL: MAKING MOVIES IS A SERIOUS BUSINESS is a fun blooper reel of the usual fluffs, mistakes, and more.

“THE LUCKIEST” MUSIC is a short featurette about securing the song The Luckiest for the movie and the musician of the song recording a new version of it.

ELLE GOULDING- “HOW LONG WILL I LOVE YOU” music video is also included on the disc.  Sadly the theatrical trailer isn’t included on the disc.

The Audio commentary for the film is with Director Richard Curtis and cast members Domhall Gleeson, Vanessa Kirby, Lydia Wilson, and tom Hollander as they discuss stories about the production of the film and little amusing stories as they also comment on the film itself.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  ABOUT TIME is a charming romantic comedy that I know I could watch over and over.   The disc has some good extras, but I wish they had more extras on the disc like the theatrical trailer and some behind-the-scenes featurettes.
