Attending a Depeche Mode concert is like attending the best church service you never been. This is the best way one of six Depeche Mode fans describes the experience of attending a Depeche Mode concert in DEPECHE MODE: SPIRITS IN THE FOREST which is a documentary experience of how the band's music touches them. There is also the full concert on a separate disc. SPIRITS IN THE FOREST mixes concert footage with footage of the six lucky fans (including a woman from Mongolia, a French woman who lost most of her memory from an accident years ago and still remembers the music, and a Colombian guy who formed a tribute band, DMK, with his son and daughter). Anton Corbijn directs this latest Depeche mode film as he is one of their favorite photographers and directors of their films and music videos.

Singer David Gahan releases his inner sex god as his confidence comes out in waves as he feeds off the crowd's energy and also excites the crowd at the same time. Martin Gore (who is the genius behind many of the Depeche Mode songs over their almost forty year career as a group) sings three of the songs during the concert (which the disc features an edit from the two nights the group played at the Waldbuhne in Berlin, Germany). The concert makes me want to see the Depeche Mode live, but this concert performance would be the band going out on a high note if they never tour again.

The presentation and sound of the films are great plus the packaging is well designed. Fans have the option of either purchasing SPIRITS IN THE FOREST in four ways: blu-ray and CD, DVD and CD, digital downloads of the SPIRITS IN THE FOREST documentary and the audio of the concert, and just the concert on CDs
