Kat Connors (Shailene Woodley) is a budding 17 year old who recently lost her virginity when her mother Eve (Eva Green) disappears without a trace and a mystery builds around her mom’s disappearance as her life takes new turns including a fling with the investigating detective (Thomas Jane).   WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD is in the same mold as AMERICAN BEAUTY and THE ICE STORM as it explores a coming of age story through another time period (the late 1980s and early 1990s) where a rivalry develops between mother an daughter as the mother trying to hang onto her fading beauty.    If that doesn’t interest you to see WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD, you do get to see Shailene’s perfect tits (the detective refers to the breasts as perfect) as she gives a different performance from the one you see in her other movies along with Christopher Meloni being a vulnerable father and Eva Green giving a wide range to the moods of Eve.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Audio commentary with director Gregg Araki and actress Shailene Woodley has them talking about the movie and performances of the actors in it

Deleted and extended scenes which include an alternate opening, an additional therapist scene that was thankfully cut, and three extended scenes (featuring a longer conversation between Kat and her two friends)

Interviews with director Gregg Araki and actress Shailene Woodley that mention Eva Green and Christopher Meloni doing different type of characters while Shailene mentions how she loved working with the director since he know exactly what he wanted to do

AXS TV: A LOOK AT WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD is a promotional featurette that is a mix of film clips, critic quotes, and sections of the two interviews

Theatrical trailer and previews for THE TWO FACES OF JANUARY, FRANK, V/H/S: VIRAL, and HONEYMOON

FINAL ANALYSIS:  WHITE BIRD IN A BLIZZARD makes me want to check out the novel as the movie paints an interesting coming-of-age story mixed with the story of a rivalry between a mother and her teenage daughter.    It highlights some great acting from Shailene Woodley, scene stealing Eva Green, and Christopher Meloni.
