Sigurd is an archeologist obsessed with a Viking ship found at the Osberg burial mound that he takes his son and daughter with him to Finnmark (a no man’s land between Norway and Russia) to investigate after runes are found on a tablet brought back by his friend.  Sigurd believes he may be finding the truth behind the Ragnarok (the day when heaven and earth are destroyed), but he finds more than he expected as they find remains of Vikings and an abandoned Soviet army outpost.

RAGNAROK is like a low budget Steven Spielberg film which makes good use of its limited effects budget while focusing on the journey Sigrud is going on to discover the truth while his daughter Ragnhild wants to hook him up with Elisabeth, the female research assistant of his friend.   I do wish the ending had a little more power to it since it comes off as a low budget adventure film where you expect more out of a movie like this that has the title of RAGNAROK.   It is an enjoyable little Norwegian film that creates a mystery that our main character has to solve while playing up all of the clichés.  It is an enjoyable and yet unoriginal low budget tale which you will enjoy for one viewing and go onto the next movie to watch.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

RAGNAROK: THE VISUAL EFFECTS is a look at all of the layers that Ghost VFX went through creating the digital effects of the movie

Also on the disc are the theatrical trailer and previews for other releases from Magnolia Entertainment.

FINAL ANALYSIS:   RAGNAROK is an entertaining and fun low budget adventure which is good for one viewing.  I do wonder if this movie would have been better served with a bigger budget or a different title though.
