STARRING Katie Featherstone (Katie), Micah Sloat (Micah), Mark Fredrichs (The Psychic)

Micah and Katie have been together for three years and live together.  Strange things have been plaguing Katie since her family’s house burned down when she was eight.  A shadowy presence has been following her throughout her life no matter where she lives including whispering her name and breathing on her.   Micah has bought a camera to document the activity in the house while they sleep.  First, you just hear noises in the house and then the presence starts to move things (like the door) and walk up the stairs.   Micah documents the events from their talk to a psychic who thinks it is a demonic presence that wants Katie to discussing the things that happened while they were asleep.  The psychic warns them not to confront or upset the demon.   Micah wants to protect his girlfriend and home from this malevolent force.

PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is a movie filmed for $11,000 and in a week.   The movie is presented as footage found with no company logo opening the movie (or even credits- only a copyright notice at the end).   The movie is creepy. It is unsettling as the sounds heighten reality.  Then the events that unfold amp up the tension throughout the film.  The time counter on the video camera in the bedroom speeds up and even slows down for pivotal moments.   Katie starts out as sweet only to slowly breakdown after things start to happen.   The force wants Katie.   The film is made in the same fashion as BLAIR WITHC PROJECT, CLOVERFIELD, and QUARANTINE.   Yet the film works as footage that is found and presented.   It is one of the creepiest horror movies of the year.  I can see why PARANORMAL ACTIVITY is making money fast.  It is the film that gets under your skin and sticks with you hours after you have seen it.
