A group of American soldiers are sent to paratroop into France to destroy a German radio installation on the eve of the D-Day invasion. Their planes come under fire and only five survive the drop. They soon find the occupied French village is using the population for unspeakable experiments on the night they're trying to do their mission and they must decide whether to just do the mission they were ordered to do.

OVERLORD really works as a World War 2 movie, but the horror elements that show up only undermine what would have made this one of the best war movies to be released in the last few years. The action sequences are shot really well and yet they could have worked on the horror elements better or left some of the more outlandish elements out.

SPECIAL FEATURES:
THE HORRORS OF WAR (51:28) is a six-part making-of documentary that dives into the origins and production of OVERLORD:
CREATION- the origins of the story and movie
DEATH ABOVE- a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of the opening action sequence that was shot in the studio and visual effects partly done by CGI
DEATH ON THE GROUND- a look at the production of the movie on location
DEATH BELOW- a look at the production of the secret German base sequences
DEATH NO MORE- a look at the climax of the movie
BROTHERS IN ARMS- the casting of the soldiers

Also among the combo pack is the movie in standard definition on DVD and a code to download/ stream a digital copy of OVERLORD

FINAL ANALYSIS: OVERLORD works better as a World War 2 movie than it does as a horror movie. I wish it found that balance, or stuck with one or the other.
