Sam Childers (Gerard Butler) is a drug dealing criminal who undergoes a transformation after he gets out of prison.  He finds God, starts his own construction company, and decides to go on a mission to Uganda and Sudan (in East Africa.  He finds the war ton conditions in Sudan appalling and how it orphans the children.   He starts his own church and begins a mission to build an orphanage in Sudan.  In his struggle to protect the children, he wages a back and forth war against notorious war criminal Kony and the LDF.    He undertakes dangerous missions to rescue kidnapped children and restore the humanity to their lives.

MACHINE GUN PREACHER is based on the true story of Sam Childers.   It is a moving film about one’s man journey to save his soul and save others from the horrors others would inflict on them.  Sam struggles to keep the Sudan mission going from waging a fight to get the money to support it, keep alive when Kony’s forces wage a battle to destroy the orphanage and kill Childers, and keep his family together.   He gets sucked into the mission as his battle is also around him and inside himself.  MACHINE GUN PREACHER is a remarkable story which shows what horrors we ignore around the world and the efforts a few like Childers accomplish against the odds.
