MACHETE KILLS

Movie review by David Blackwell

107 minutes, Rated R

STUDIO:  Open Road Films/ Quick Draw Productions

Theatrical RELEASE DATE:  10-11-2013

STARRING Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, and Amber Heard

DIRECTED by Robert Rodriguez

MACHETE KILLS is a crazier Grindhouse inspired movie than MACHETE.  It starts with a trailer for MACHETE KILLS AGAIN IN SPACE which promises to be Rodriguez’s epic STAR WARS spoof before it launches into the sequel known as MACHETE KILLS which ultimately turns into a quest of revenge for Machete Cortex as he must stop a missile being fired at Washington D.C at the order of the U.S. President (Charlie Sheen going by the name of Carlos Estevez).  His mission is stopping Marcos Mendez (a Mexican revolutionary with a split personality) who has the missile, but Machete finds there is a puppet master behind this who has a connected to Voz Tech.  Can Machete trust his contact, Miss San Antonio, as he tries to bring Mendez back to the US with a killer named El Camaleon (played by multiple actors including Cuba Gooding Jr. and Lady Gaga) and a brothel mistress with Double D machine gun bra (Desdemona) on his trail?

MACHETE KILLS is crazier than the first film and the trailer for the next one makes me hope the third MACHETE gets made because it looks even crazier than MACHETE KILLS.  Robert Rodriguez has managed to outdo the first MACHETE with a sequel as fun as the first film.  Mel Gibson is one crazy super villain (like a grindhouse James Bond villain) and I salute his mad choice at nabbing this role since he can do anything he wants with all that money he earned from acting and making PASSION OF THE CHRIST on his own dime.  I love the cast and the crazy story.  Robert Rodriguez truly loves movies and the grindhouse style of filmmaking.  Here’s hoping Machete will be back to kill again in space.
