I have to say the live action adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK is a lot better than the animated movie. This movie manages to blend the original animated film with parts of the Rudyard Kipling story to make a wonderful journey story where a man-cub Mowgli is forced to abandon the only home he knows to escape the wrath of tiger Shere Khan.  His guide is the black panther Bagheera before he becomes separated to brave the dangers of the jungle alone.  Along the way he meets various animal characters including the bear Baloo, King Louie, and a too charming snake.   It is a challenging task for director John Favreau in this reimagined take on the animated classic where a boy actor is filmed against blue screen and parts of a set to have the animals and the full landscape created in computer later.  THE JUNGLE BOOK is a wonderful journey movie

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Audio commentary with director John Favreau as he talks about the making of the movie along with talk about what parts came form the animated movie and the story by Rudyard Kipling.

THE JUNGLE BOOK REIMAGINED: Jon Farveau looks back at how they created the movie in this 30 minute behind-the-scenes look

I AM MOWGLI- a look at the journey of actor Neel Sethi as he and director John Farveau talk about the character and movie

KING LOUIE’S TEMPLE LAYER BY LAYER which is a look at the various pieces and stages that went into creating the “I Wan’na Be Like You” sequence

The movie in standard definition on DVD and a code to download and stream a digital HD copy of THE JUNGLE BOOK.

FINAL ANALYSIS: I like this version of THE JUNGLE BOOK better than the animated take on it.  THE JUNGLE BOOK REIMAGINED featurette and the audio commentary are worth watching if you want to know more about the making of the movie.
