The CIA tries an experimental memory imprinting technique on an animalistic criminal named Jericho (Kevin Costner) in a last ditch effort to find a computer programmer called The Dutchman (who has in his hands a devastating computer program called Wormhole which can bypass all computer code) which CIA agent Bill Pope (Ryan Reynolds) hid from Spanish billionaire anarchist Xaiver Heimdahl who tortured and killed Pope.  Pope’s CIA supervisor Quaker Wells (Gray Oldman) wants to find the Dutchman before Heimdahl does.  After Dr. Franks (Tommy Lee Jones) imprints Pope’s memories on Jericho, Jericho escapes as he starts to experience Pope’s memories and tracks down Pope’s wife Jill (Gal Gadot) and her kid Emma.   Jericho wants to find the money that Bill Pope stashed somewhere as Pope’s memories and emotions starts to have an effect on Jericho.  CRIMINAL is worth at least a rental as long as you remember to let the characters take you for a ride and not dwell too much on the plot.

CRIMINAL INTENT is a two part making of featurette as the cast, the director, the writers, and the composer are interviewed about the making of the movie from casting, the story, how memory imprinting is real science being developed right now, the music score, and how Kevin Costner showed director Ariel Vromen to make the movie breathe in the editing stage

 

DIRECTOR’S NOTES is forty minutes of scenes commentary from the director- this is the closet you will get to an audio commentary on the movie.

 

Four deleted scenes with the first two cut for pacing and the last two scenes (with Tommy lee Jones) thankfully cut to keep the plot of the clearly focused.

FINAL ANALYSIS: CRIMINAL is an efficient thriller with a twist and a great cast (who wouldn’t want to shoot in the United Kingdom and work with other great actors).  The behind-the-scenes content is worth checking out for anyone interested in the process of making a movie.
