Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) looks for revenge
for what our
band of racing heroes did to Deckard’s younger brother Owen Shaw (Luke Evans)
and he starts to strike out at everyone close to Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). Dom
wants to kill Deckard for trying to kill
his sister Mia, Brian (Paul Walker in his last acting role), and her son. He
gets help from some super secret agent
(Kurt Russell) who wants Dom and his crew (Brian, Letty, Tej, Roman) to rescue
some super hacker who has created some super tracking software and he will let
Dom use to track Deckard Shaw (which is kinda of a McGuffin since Deckard is
hunting Dom anywhere he goes and it is never addressed how is Deckard is able
to find Dom and his crew anywhere). Also
Letty is starting to remember who she was before her accident in the fourth FAST
AND THE FURIOUS movie.
FURIOUS 7 is an inferior follow up to the really
great FAST
FIVE and almost as good FAST
AND FURIOUS 6. The cars parachuting out of a plane is cool,
but the direction of the movie features too many super cuts and shaky camera
like the camera operator is undergoing the shakes or some type of drug
withdrawal. They do tie up some threads
from previous movies while coming up with some massive plot holes. You don’t
go to theses type of movies for the
plot. The audience goes for the
over-the-sop car stuff, the likeable cast, and the babes. Jason Statham is pretty
awesome as a bad guy
that you wonder whether you should be rooting for him or for Vin Diesel. The
car stuff is very much over-the-top
compared to the last three movies and I hope that James Wan- the director of
FURIOUS 7 learns to dial back on the camera style for this movie and make the
action seem clearer and less jittery for AQUAMAN (if he ends up doing that movie).
This sequel is making a lot of
money, but I hope Universal Pictures gives this series a break for them to
think of a better plot for the eighth FAST AND
FURIOUS movie. If they don’t do another FAST
AND THE FURIOUS movie, this imperfect sequel
is going to the best they can do as a send off for the franchise.
