FORBIDDEN WORLD is one of producer Roger Corman's two low budget B-movie rip-offs of ALIEN (the other is GALAXY OF TERROR). This movie was originally titled MUTANT and somehow was changed to FORBIDDEN WORLD. The original title fits the movie more and the title of FORBIDDEN WORLD should have the title given to GLAXY OF TERROR. FORBIDDEN WORLD was made on a lower budget than GALAXY OF TERROR which re-used some sets from the other movie. Oddly enough, this one of the two ALIEN rip-offs is actually the better written of the two.

Scream factory has went back to do a 4K Scan of the original film elements for the theatrical cut and a 2K scan of the only existing print of the director's cut which goes by the original title of MUTANT. The director's cut is five minutes longer and it is my preferred way to watch the movie and you can access it in the Special Features menu.

FORBIDDEN WORLD begins with professional troubleshooter Mike Colby and his robot assistant/ sidekick SAM-104 sent to a scientific outpost on the remote planet Xarbia. He is sent to deal with a metamorph experiment known as Subject 20. He decides to have it destroyed, but he is convinced by the head of the outpost to delay the decision until morning. Mike has dinner with the staff and learns more of the origins of Subject 20 before having a one night stand with the beautiful blond scientist. Subject 20 escapes and injects its first victim with a substance that turns the victim into pure protein for it to feast on. Mike and the staff of the outpost must band together to stop Subject 20 before they all become food.

THE MAKING OF FORBIDDEN WORLD features interviews with star Jesse Vint, Director (and editor) Allan Holzman, and various members of the crew as they talk about the making of the movie
Interview with Producer Roger Corman as he talks about the movie and he doesn't remember how the movie title was changed
Interview with Special Effects Artist John Carl Buechler

Theatrical trailer and a photo gallery round our the extras for the disc which comes in a limited edition steelbook

FINAL ANALYSIS: Despite having the wrong title and not sticking with the fitting title of MUTANT, FORBIDDEN WORLD is an enjoyable sci-fi B movie from Producer Roger Corman's studio. The making-of documentary is worth a watch and both cuts of the movie have their best presentation on blu-ray (unless the movie gets a 4K UHD in the future). If you want nudity and electronica music along with a B movie rip-off of ALIEN, you can't go wrong with this movie. I would recommend you watch the director's cut and skip the theatrical version.
