Everly (Salma Hayek) is a sex slave for the yakuza when one night she must defend herself in her apartment and make sure her daughter is safe from the yakuza boss Takio.  Yakuza and prostitutes go out to kill Everly to make sure she doesn’t leave the apartment building alive as the body count grows during the night as Everly fights for her life.   EVERLY is pure exploitation and grindhouse B movie action as one impressive action scene is followed by the text with a little dark humor thrown in against the cliché Christmastime setting.  Salma Hayek is a force to be reckoned with in her performance as the title character as she does thing out of a mother’s love for a child she was forced away from about four years ago.   Joe Lynch delivers another grate picture like the previous one I have also enjoyed (KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM).

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Creative Feature Audio Commentary with Director Joe Lynch, Co-Producer Brett Hedblom, and Editor Evan Schiff as they talk about the origin of the movie, where it almost starred Kate Hudson, what the actors brought to the development of scenes in the story, and other interesting tidbits about the production

Technical Feature Audio Commentary with Director Joe Lynch and cinematographer Steve Gainer

SILENT NIGHT music video by Raya Yarbrough and Bear McCreary (who did the music for the movie) and directed by Joe Lynch

Previews that play before the main menu is one for MONSTER: DARK CONTINENT

FINAL ANALYSIS: Selma Hayek owns her performance in this Grindhouse homage and it is most badass Salma Hayek movie since FROM DUSK TIL DAWN and DESPERADO.  If you want to watch a bad ass beautiful woman kill bad guys who deserve it, EVERLY is your kind of movie.
