SYNOPSIS:
When the population of Los Angeles is vacuumed off the face of the Earth, Detective Mark Corley storms his way onto an alien ship to rescue his estranged son. But after crashing the ship in Southeast Asia, he must forge an alliance with a band of survivors to discover the key to saving his son and taking back the planet once and for all.

ANALYSIS:
BEYOND SKYLINE is a great improvement over the lackluster first film, SKYLINE. The writers of the INDEPENDENCE DAY sequel could have taken notes from BEYOND SKYLINE and that sequel would have been better. The police detective (Frank Grillo) is taken on board the alien ship with his son and a few other humans in the continuation to SKYLINE. Two of the characters do appear in the sequel to provide a little continuity. BEYOND SKYLINE has lot more action than SKYLINE as Frank Grillo provides more charisma than the whole cast of SKYLINE (I thought the first one was that lackluster). This production is one of those odd American/ Canadian/ Asian productions as half of the movie takes place in Southeast Asia with plenty of martial arts fighting against aliens and other humans.

I would watch a sequel since the ending does set it up for another SKYLINE movie, but I also think it doesn't really need another sequel. BEYOND SKYLINE is a good conclusion to what was begun in SKYLINE. The only extra of sorts on the DVD is a gag reel that plays during the start of the end credits.
